CIMP

Marine HQ has launched a “Community Integrated Master Plan” (CIMP) to address in concert with the community a variety of facility needs faced by the Barracks.  A public meeting will be held Wednesday, January 27th, 5 to 8 pm, in Eastern Market’s North Hall. It’s an open house format, so you do not have to be there for three hours! There is a web site — http://sedistrictcimp.com/. And here’s a  meeting flyer:  CIMP Public Meeting

The Marines have serious issues, centering principally around “Building 20,” on the north side of the Freeway at the corner of 8th and I which now houses 250 Marines.  The building is cramped,  deteriorating, etc.  A new facility is needed that meets DOD and Marin requirements and is within walking distance of the Barracks.  At the same time, the aim is to create new facilities that to some extent — e.g. satisfying military requirements — that can be shared with the community; e.g. child care, meeting, and sports facilities; a Post Exchange that also offers a public grocery store with special pricing for military personnel, etc.

More info — see the web site, come to the public meeting, or post a comment/questions.

There are unmet facility needs and security requirements within the existing Marine
Barracks.
o This planning effort is driven by current criteria for housing, training, and operations
as well as the need for adequate facilities.
o This effort is designed to actively engage the community as partners in the planning
process.
o Potential for commonalities in community and Marine Corps needs.
o Potential for coordinated economic development opportunities capitalizing on
Marine Barracks Washington visitors and personnel.
o Various real estate options now available to the Department of Defense were not
available when past planning efforts were conducted.
